Charter School
A procedure for the establishment of Charter Schools was enacted by California State Legislature under Senate Bill 1448, which went into effect on January 1, 1993. The intent of the State Legislature was to allow innovation and creativity in the education process; however, RESIG recognized that the Charter Schools could bring unique risk to RESIG not common to our member districts.
RESIG also recognized the importance of providing the Charter Schools with adequate insurance coverage and risk management programs to better serve our member districts and the school children in Sonoma County.
Charter Schools in your district are NOT automatically covered by RESIG. In fact, Charter Schools are not insured through RESIG until they successfully complete RESIG’s membership process. The membership process can take as long as 60 to 90 days. It is important that any Charter School seeking membership in RESIG request an application packet from RESIG and provide our office with the required information as soon as it becomes available. For more information, please contact Cecilia A. Quiambao: 707-836-0779 ext. 106 or e-mail at cquiambao@resig.org ; Deborah Fraser: 707-836-0779 ext. 121 or e-mail at dfraser@resig.org.
