Custodian
General
Description of Job:
Job
involves performance of routine cleaning and maintenance work on school equipment
and buildings. Job activities include sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, oiling
and buffing floors; vacuuming rugs and carpets; refill of paper and other sanitary
holders; cleaning and polishing chrome in restrooms, dusting, washing, waxing
and polishing furniture and woodwork; cleaning and disinfecting lavatories, drinking
fountains and waste containers; replacement of light bulbs; other minor repair
and maintenance of buildings or equipment; turning out lights and locking doors;
picking up paper and other refuse from grounds; emptying waste baskets and hauling
waste and emptying in dumpsters; moving and rearranging chairs, tables, desks
and other furniture and equipment; cleaning blackboards and whiteboards; washing
windows; set-up and clean-up for special events; during vacation periods, participating
in thorough cleaning and restoration of school plant; may perform routine groundskeeping
work in some assignments; in higher level positions, may be involved in supervision
and supply inventory/ordering.

Job Factors:
The
following conditions are present - exposure to fumes from cleaning solutions,
floor strippers and waxes; dust, dirt and wetness; temperature variation and weather
conditions when outdoors; occasional work at heights; and biohazards when cleaning
restrooms and cleaning up bodily fluids. May be required to wear a respirator.
May use a golf cart for traveling on school grounds. Must have normal vision,
corrected or uncorrected.
