PHYSICAL DEMANDS FOR THE POSITION OF:

Maintenance Worker

General Description of Job:

Job involves performing a variety of electrical, carpentry, painting and plumbing duties in the repair and maintenance of facilities. Typical job activities include work on the installation and repair of grounds and building facilities; installation and repair of school equipment, athletic fields, fences, storm drains, gutters, roofs, plumbing, electrical equipment, windows, lockers, and floors; maintenance of boiler rooms and heating/air conditioning systems; repair of desks, chairs, tables and other furniture; operation of power equipment, such as truck, tractor, forklift and trencher; installation and repair of electrical outlets and fixtures; roof repair; painting of indoor and outdoor structures; opening and closing of school facilities; occasional performance of custodial duties as required; operation of hand and power tools; maintenance of written equipment logs and records and preparation of reports regarding facilities maintenance and repairs; may direct other employees assigned to maintenance projects.

(Note: Terms used in this section are defined as follows: Rarely -- 1 to 10%; Occasionally - 11 to 33%; Frequently - 34 to 66%; and Continuously - 67 to 100% of the work day.)

Pushing/Pulling: Frequently - up to 500 lbs. at a time to move large                          pieces of equipment or machinery on dolly
Reaching:
a) Above Shoulder: Occasionally
b) Below Shoulder: Continuously

Lifting/Carrying:
a) 0-10 lbs.: Continuously - weights carried up to 100 yards at a time
b) 11-25 lbs.: Rarely to Occasionally - weights carried up to 150 ft.                    at a time
c) 26-50 lbs.: Occasionally to frequently - weights carried up to 150
                   feet at a time
d) 51-75 lbs.: Occasionally to frequently - weights carried up to 100
                   feet at a time
e) 76-100 lbs.: Rarely - weights carried several feet at a time; other
                     employees or golf cart/dolly available at most job                      sites for this and heavier lifting up to 130 lbs. to                      move composite material sheets, cement bags or                      door.

a) Repetitive hand use: Frequently
b) Simple grasping: Frequently
c) Power Grasping: Occasionally
d) Fine Manipulation: Rarely
e) Hand and arm twisting/turning: Frequently
f) Writing: Rarely

Other Job Factors:

The following conditions are present - operation of forklifts, tractors, and other vehicles; working around and operation of power tools; walking on uneven ground and exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions when outdoors; exposure to noise and vibration from power equipment (ear plugs and safety glasses are utilized); exposure to dust, contact cement fumes, sawdust, and paint and thinner fumes; exposure to various road and traffic conditions in positions requiring driving between work sites; possible exposure to raw sewage when performing plumbing work; periodic work at heights up to 40 feet on ladder, scaffold or roof. May be required to wear a respirator. Must have normal vision, corrected or uncorrected.
